This was our storm. We went north, then west toward the storm. It had a well defined wall cloud on it and when we approached, it had strong rotation. We positioned ourselves west of LaGrange near Bear Mountain and watched as the rotation tightened up and a needle tornado briefly touched down. The hail core was approaching, so we had to backtrack east a bit. That is when the tornado firmly planted down just behind us. We had to continue driving to a safe place as 2"+ hailstones started pounding us. We got back on 85 southbound and watched the rest of the life of the tornado. It had a beautiful white rope out stage. Road options forced us to drop farther south. It tried to produce another tornado, but the rotation was extremely weak in the funnel. We had a nice look at the structure of the storm. Later we shot some nice lightning before heading off to eat and reposition for the next day.

Today we chased far SW Texas and saw some great scenery as well as some non-severe storms.

Today we chased far SW Texas and saw some great scenery as well as some non-severe storms.

May 26, 2009

This was an extremely hot day. A storm eventually formed west of Fort Worth, TX. We got ahead of it and watched as it approached the city. It was a bit high based to produce any tornado.

May 25, 2009

We target a storm north of Childress, TX. It had some nice structure briefly, but fell apart when we got to it.

May 24, 2009

This was a travel/sight seeing day. We visited Monument Rocks and Greensburg, KS, where the first EF5 tornado hit on May 4, 2007

May 23, 2009

We chased a storm north of Imperial, NE. It had a very pronounced shelf on the north side and not real organization. Eventually, we made our way back south and saw a well defined roll cloud after dark near Atwood, KS

May 20, 2009

Our target was near Alliance, NE. We visited Carhenge while waiting for initiation. A storm started out to our south-west and we went after it. On the way, a deer ran out and hit the lead vehicle, messing up the front end and side. After a little duct tape, we were up and running again. The storm never did get well organized.

May 15, 2009

We chased NE Kansas. there was very little rotation. We did see one funnel, but it had very week rotation and was disorganized, despite the report of a "well defined funnel reaching within 20ft of the ground"

May 12, 2009

We traveled to Saint Louis to position for the next day chasing. We visited the Arch and even went up to the top of it for a spectacular view.

May 8, 2009

There were a few storms in south central Oklahoma and north central Texas. The view was not very photogenic, but we did pass by Turner Falls. This looks a little out of place for Oklahoma.

May 5, 2009

A storm fired right when and where expected near Breckenridge, TX at 6pm. It took a little while to get going, and then suddenly organized rapidly. Over the hill, it looked like a tornado was forming, but when we moved to a better view, it was apparent that it was not in contact with the ground. Later we did get a baseball to the windshield on one vehicle and cracked the headlight on another.

May 4, 2009

No storms in the forecast, so we visited Palo Duro Canyon.

January 28, 2009

Total sleet accumulated to 3 inches. Seeing kids sledding and snowboarding in Oklahoma is a rare sight. I guess they don't know better than to slide onto the street.

January 27, 2009

We had about 1.5 inches of sleet on top of about 1/4" of freezing rain.
