The fun side of storm chasing

April 30, 2006

The first chase day of Tour #1. Today we didn't expect anything. By early afternoon, moisture and warm air was advecting up to north-central Oklahoma. A chance of storms was there. We decided to go for it, even though we didn't expect much out of it. As we approached the storms, we could see that they were very high based and low topped. They did look very interesting anyway. The first cell raced ESE out of our reach and put out a cold outflow boundary. Another storm formed west of it. We got a great view as it approached us and overtook us. It put out a lot of soft hail. We sow several great views of rainbows before the storm got too far east and it was time to find diner and call it a night.
